SPA Athletic Reserves had their game called off on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch as they looked to build on last Saturday's impressive victory over Boroughbridge in the Alverton Trophy.
Last Saturday Spa Athletic Res won their third cup match on the bounce. The game didn't start well for Spa though when they lost Gary Macleod to a head injury and then watched last weeks match winner Tony Simpson power a header past his own ‘keeper J
ohn Hebden to give Boroughbridge the lead.
‘Bridge should have gone 2-0 up soon after but Hebden pulled of a blinding save to keep the score 1-0.
Spa gradually got back into the game when Jonny Hewison's run and cross found Matt Edmiston who should have scored but miss kicked the ball back to Hewison who smashed in the equaliser. Just before half time substitute Craig Rampling was clean though but shot tamely.
In the second half Spa were camped inside Boroughbridge’s half for long spells but failed to score depspite Hewison and Rawlinson having great chances.
Then from Hewisons corner came a goal mouth scramble where the post was hit and from the rebound Ramplings point blank shot was somehow saved by the ‘keeper.
Eventually though the pressure told and Rampling latched on to a pass from Steve Kilroy and shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.
Spa nearly gifted Boroughbridge an equalser when James Bradley’s back pass beat Hebden and was about to cross the line before Mike Tuohy got back to clear. Spa wrapped up the game when Hewsion broke down the right and crossed to Rawlinson who tapped in the third for a deserved win.
