HARROGATE Railway manager Dave Morgan is looking forward to kicking off his first campaign in charge at Station View after the UniBond First Division North fixtures were announced this week.
Rail’ have been handed a tricky home fixture against Lancaster City on the opening day of the campaign with Morgan desperate to hit the ground running.
Morgan is also licking his lips at the prospect of their mouth-watering clash at home to new boys FC Halifax Town on New Year’s Day.
“It’s important we get off to a good start,” said Morgan.
“There are a few teams who we need to look out for this season and Halifax will be one of them. By all accounts they need to get out of the division this season and they’re spending a lot of money to do that.
“But we’re all looking forward to it. I’m happy with the size of the squad at the moment but I’m looking to bring one or two more in before the start.”
Railway face their first pre-season friendly a week tomorrow away to Barnoldswick Town (3pm).
But two players who won’t be donning the red and green strip are Ben Jones and Joe Brown who have decided to make the switch to The Shay.
However with last year’s FA Cup heroes Ryan Haigh, Scott Ryan and Lee Ryan all staying the squad looks in good shape for a promotion push.
“We’ve tried to keep the same squad but we have lost one or two,” added Morgan.
“Maybe we need to strengthen in the striker department. We’ve lost Richard Marshall, who told me at the end of last season he won’t be going back.
“We’ve also got ‘keeper Liam Sutcliffe who played here when Martin Haresign was the manager.”
Morgan has this week captured the signatures of former Ripon City 18-year-olds James Swainston and Jonny Webb.
Webb who has captained the England provisional U-19s Schoolboys team is also having trials at Leeds United.
In other news Rail’ have announced the resurrection of their Reserve Team at Station View.
The reserves were disbanded in 2006 when the NCE Reserve League folded and since then have had an Academy side which has seen a wealth of talent rise up the ranks.
Bob Moffat will manage the side in the Lancit Haulage Lancashire Football League with Miles Sutton appointed assistant coach.
The club have encouraged any local players who feel they have what it takes to play for Railway at this level and above to contact Bob by e-mail moffatbob@hotmail.com or phone 07971517993.
Railway are looking for volunteers to get the ground ready as they prepare for the new season. Please contact Dave Shepherd on 07816986799 to register.
lMeanwhile Rail’ have announced their season ticket prices for next season. Adults will be £100 with concessions £50.
