HARROGATE Railway gear up for their last pre-season fixture tomorrow at home to North Ferriby United (3pm ko) with boss Dave Morgan expecting a stern test before the start of their league campaign.
The Rail' manager was delighted with Tuesday's 5-0 triumph away at Tadcaster Albion especially after their nightmare defeat in the John Smith's Cup clash against Harrogate Town seven days' previous.
"I think it will be a much stronger test than the Tadcaster game," said Morgan.
"They play in the league above us and it will be a difficult game but that's exactly what we want before the league starts the week after."
UniBond Premier Division outfit Ferriby's build-up for the start of their season has certainly been hectic with tough games against Premier League new boys Hull City and their 2-1 defeat at home to Neil Aspin's Town at the start of the month.
"We're looking forward to it and all the lads have been working hard," continued Morgan.
"Everyone is fighting for their place in the team now. I've got the squad down to about 16 now and there's plenty of competition for places.
" Last season I think we were a bit light and in some positions a bit threadbare but this year we have competition in every place, sometimes two players fighting for every position which is positive."
Morgan has also been busy in the transfer market this week by announcing the signing of former Guiseley midfielder-striker Dean Walters.
The boss feels Walters will be an excellent partner to Nick Boshell up front and is looking forward to seeing the two gel together this season.
"Dean is an excellent player and I'm a bit surprised Guiseley have let him go," he said.
"Nick is about six foot, good in the air and I think he'll work well with Dean.
"Dean is one of those players whose a nightmare for defenders, he'll back into them and holds the ball well."
On Tuesday a brace from Boshell, and one apiece from Joel Etienne, Rob Morgan and Dan Verity sealed the 5-0 victory much to the delight of Morgan.
"It was a good result especially after the Harrogate Town result," he added.
"It was better than a training match. We expected to win but the team still put in a good display."
