THE Ripon Branch of Amnesty International is holding a letter-writing campaign on Sunday to tackle China's human rights record ahead of August's Beijing Olympic Games.
Residents are invited to view an exhibition on China and write letters to the authorities in Beijing urging them to address their poor record on the rights of its citizens, not least the counties high number of executions.

Ruth Grenfell, of Ripon Amnesty International. said: "Not to speak out against human rights abuses is to ignore the Olympic values.

"If you are in Ripon on Sunday drop into the Cathedral to look at the Amnesty International Exhibition on China or sign a letter to the authorities in China asking them to stop executions, have fair trials for all, respect human rights defenders and allow freedom from censorship."

The exhibition will be in the Cathedral until Sunday August 3.
