High School student finds key to success

BOROUGHBRIDGE High School student Joe Miles has been awarded a top piano prize.
He has been presented with the Lloyd Hartley memorial prize after scoring most marks in the whole of the Leeds and Harrogate area for his grade 6 piano exams.

A Year 11 student, Joe also plays jazz saxophone in the swing band at Boroughbridge High and, as part of a group of 20 students there, was recently involved in a three-day workshop with the London Southbank Sinfonia which culminated in a concert at York Railway Museum.

As a result of the event, Boroughbridge High received a financial award for its music department due to Joe being given the accolade of the most-improved student in the senior section over the three days.

He was presented with his award at York Minster by Simon Over, conductor of the Southbank Sinfonia.

Joe is a student of Knaresborough music teacher Barry Stephens.
