A FLYING surprise visit to Kirkby Malzeard School had pupils jumping for joy.
An army Lynx helicopter and its crew from Dishforth Army Air Corps dropped in to the school to say hello to astonished pupils on Tuesday last week.

Teacher Rachel Anderson explained: “We have been doing the topic of transport for the last half term and recently looking at vehicles which fly. We spoke to people from Dishforth and they were able to get the helicopter to come and land.

“The children didn’t know it was coming. It was a big surprise to them when this helicopter turned round in the air and landed on the school field.

“There was lots of screaming and jumping up and down.”

Miss Anderson said the pilot, Lt Col Sexton, and his three crew members stayed for two hours and let the children look round the helicopter and try on helmets before returning to Dishforth.

“The children were talking about it for days,” she said. “In fact, it was the talk of the whole village.”
