ALMOST 100 former members of the Women's Land Army have attended a reception at County Hall, Northallerton, in honour of their contribution to feeding the nation and providing vital timber for industries during the dark days of the war.
North Yorkshire County Council has helped organise a series of receptions around the county on behalf of Lord Crathorne, the Lord Lieutenant, who wished, on behalf of the Crown, to say a special thank you to the women.
Speaking at the County Hall reception Lord Crathorne said: "I want to thank you all for all the work you did in the dark days of the Second World War.
"Your work was vital to the war effort and without it, it is possible we wouldn't be here today sitting and enjoying each other's company in this way."
