THE Nidderdale AONB Young Rangers kicked off National Insect Week in a very appropriate way.
BTCV, who run the sessions, armed the group with insect pots and a sweep net and they went hunting for beasts and bugs in St Cuthbert's churchyard, Pateley Bridge.

The youngsters looked at the camouflage of carpet moths, webs of spiders, prehistoric-looking woodlice and many more ‘mini-monsters.’

The Nidderdale AONB Young Rangers is for 7-16 year olds who have an interest in the great outdoors. They meet two Saturdays each month and more often in the summer holidays. The free sessions run from 9.30am -12.30pm.

The Young Rangers have learnt all about fire lighting skills, arts and crafts, river surveys, bug hunting and identification, layering hazel and have even made bird boxes.
