THE unpredictable weather will not be a problem for the pupils and parents of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Bishop Thornton, next term.
The building of a new travel shelter has been recently completed.

Parents can now enjoy waiting for their children at the end of the school day in comfort and children can use the shelter at play times, come rain or shine.

The funding for the shelter came from a travel grant from North Yorkshire County Council to encourage families to positively encourage walking, cycling and using the bus to get to school.

The school has completed a school travel plan, taken part in a travel awareness debate and run a cycling awareness programme as part of their work towards receiving the grant.

Julie Sowray, the parent governor at the school, said: “It’s a great addition to the playground, and it means everyone can use it.

“We have already used it for the Family Barbecue Evening when the children set up a game of skittles inside it.”

The children are thrilled with their new shelter. Year 6 pupil Imogen said: “It means we can go outside for some of our lessons and it’s great for reading in, too.

Emily, a year 3 pupil, added: “It’s brilliant for playing games in.”

The shelter was built by Bridge Timber Products Ltd and the school were so impressed they ordered some new picnic tables.
