High School pupils take to bikes

STUDENTS from Nidderdale High School took to their bikes on the National Byway, cycling 62 miles in just two days.
The eight Year 9 and 10 pupils cycled from Easingwold to Flamborough Head, stopping overnight in Helmsley and to see some sights along the way.
Cycle leader Sam Cook said: "It was fantastic; we had brilliant weather which helped.
“We did minimum training with them and they just rode absolutely superbly. They all enjoyed it.”
The ride was a pilot for a Youth Challenge programme being developed on the National Byway - Britain’s premier leisure cycle route.
International hotelier Sir Rocco Forte, one of the charity’s trustees and an enthusiastic cyclist, is funding the pilot event.
The ride was led by Sam Cook and Ian Peacock, with help from two teachers, Katie Shaw and Carolyn Penny. National Byway executive Mike Breckan was in the support team, with Martin Matycka driving the support vehicle. The students were:
Josh Beresford, Ryan Elliot, Callum Lawrence, Nico Milnes, Alex Rhodes, Frazer Roberts, Alex Taylor, James Thackwray.
