A REFURBISHMENT helped a Pateley Bridge business donate £300 to good causes in the area.
High Street Fisheries overhauled its shop, including replacing the fryers, which owners Andy and Julie Morgan said had been in place for an impressive 36 years.

Mr Morgan, who has been running the chip shop with his wife for eight years, said: "I hate to think how many fish and chips it's done over the years!"
To test their new equipment once the work was complete, the couple opened their doors early one Friday evening and sold meals at just £1 each.

In just a few hours they raised £300, which they have donated to the Mayor's Fund, a popular choice with their customers.

"Because it's the local mayor's charity, it was well received," Mr Morgan said.

The money will be added to other funds raised throughout the year under Mayor Ian Skaife, including £2,500 collected from the annual Mayor's Ball.

Community groups are now invited to apply for small grants to help them make improvements.
