SHAKESPEARE'S lesser-known take of Celtic-Roman trickery, plotting and surprise is to be performed in Harrogate.
Cymbeline is to be presented at the Sun Pavilion by Theatre Set-Up, a London-based touring Shakespeare company. The actors will be in full period costume, performing in the same minimalist style as the Bard’s own company, The King’s Men.

Rarely performed, this action-packed romantic comedy from Shakespeare's late career is written in the magical Celtic tradition.

It tells the tale of a wicked stepmother, the Queen of King Cymbeline, whose daughter, Imogen, has secretly married a man she disapproves of; a Roman soldier tricking his way into Imogen's bedroom to win an improper bet; a plot to kill Imogen; a brutish Roman army on the threshold; and visionary dreams and voices from heaven.

The show will be Theatre Set-Up’s 26th annual visit to the Harrogate district.

It takes place on Thursday, July 2, at 7.30pm but guests are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy before the show starts.

l Tickets are available from the Harrogate Tourist Information Centre in person or on 01423 537 300.
