HARROGATE Jazz Club played host earlier this week to a soulful, funky jazz singer with a rather interesting background.
Held every Tuesday night at the West Park Hotel, the club's latest guest Nancy J Brown has not only made a name for herself in China with a spell as a resident singer in Beijing, she also managed to squeeze in a 60-minute performance atop famous sculptor Anthony Gormley's Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square last summer.
On a more musical note, this exciting Yorkshire singer has just finished recording her new album in London with award-winning instrumentalists.
Her individual interpretations of lesser known standards such as Smack Dab in the Middle and show tunes such as Getting to Know You from The King and I, flit from elements of drum n bass to more traditional jazz.
