An interesting revelation has come to light during the rehearsals of Harrogate Theatre's current production, Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick.
It has been discovered that one of the play's characters, Imogen Hassall, is no stranger to Harrogate Theatre's main stage.
In 1978, the Carry On actress actually appeared as Valerie in Harrogate Theatre's production of Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall's comedy, Say Who You Are.
The production team at the time had fond memories of Imogen referring to her as a "lovely lady" and an "intriguing actress."
Although Imogen was not a main character to feature in the Carry On series, she is best known for her role as Jenny Grubb in the 1970's film 'Carry On Loving'. She sadly passed away in 1980 at age 38.
Helen Anderson-Lee plays the character of Imogen and said: "It's very exciting to appear on the very stage that she did. It's a huge responsibility to me as I am playing somebody who is not only real, but had such a tragic life. I hope she doesn't mind what I'm doing and that she is happy for me."
Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick is at Harrogate Theatre until Saturday, September 25. Performances start at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday 18 September at 2.30pm.
