BOOSTING businesses in market towns by encouraging people to shop locally is the theme of an event in Knaresborough this month – and interested people from towns throughout Yorkshire are invited to take part.
The Shop Local Schemes seminar is being jointly organised by Action for Market Towns and North Yorkshire County Council and will be held in Knaresborough on Thursday, February 25.

Debbie McGrath, of Action for Market Towns, explained: “Many towns
are looking at Shop Local Schemes, such as loyalty cards, to encourage shoppers to support local businesses. We want to help towns learn from the experiences (good and bad) of towns which have already done it.”

The Knaresborough Post has run a ‘Keep It Local’ campaign over the past 12 months highlighting local shops and businesses in a bid to encourage people to use their local traders.

Caterham in Surrey is another town which has launched a successful Shop Local Scheme and the organisers will be at the seminar to explain how it works.

Debbie added: “This is a very practical event to help towns to help their local shopping centres thrive and will be useful to town councils, community groups and town partnerships.”

For more details of the seminar which takes place at Knaresborough House from 10am till 3.30pm, visit www.towns.org.uk or call Debbie McGrath on 07540 723305.
