April spent 16 days at home with the virus, before being taken to Harrogate District Hospital when her condition deteriorated. She spent three days in intensive care, and 11 on the ward looking after coronavirus patients before thankfully being discharged, and now she is recovering at home where she has been blown away by the kindness from family, friends and the wider community.

Despite all the PPE that they are having to wear, they are all so compassionate and genuinely care. They put their lives on the line, and I will never be able to repay them, however we can all help by following the government guidelines to stay in."
Her husband, Mayor Stuart Martin, said: "Thank you seems such a small word. However, April and I will never be able to repay the staff working at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust for helping to save her life. You are all heroes."
