Scriven WI:
IT HAD been a glorious sunny day when we arrived for our June meeting.

Joan began as usual with the business agenda. We had received a certificate from Federation in respect of our anniversary and thanking us for enjoying and contributing 80 years
to the WI.

At our August meeting, which is 'Members Night', we are having caterers in to do a meal for us in celebration.

Anyone putting entries in the Great Yorkshire Show must have their entry forms in by June 19; Joan has arranged a craft morning for June 21.

A pub quiz is to be held on September 22 (details to be confirmed later). There was a birthday posy for Ellen Perry and the bonus ball was won by our president Joan Burdett.

We were then introduced to our speaker Mr Ken Wielding who gave us an informative talk on the Great North Air Ambulance, accompanied by a slide show.

Established as a charity in 1991, as they do not receive any government funding obviously fundraising plays a big part; each aircraft costs £750,000 per annum to run.

There are two sides to the charity, the fundraising and the trading company side, eg. house collections of clothes, household goods etc, and this pays for the administration charges for the helicopters.

A small display of goods were on sale, after which we ended the evening with refreshments.

Our next meeting is July 14 at Park Grove Methodist Church, when Mr Ron Wood will be talking on 'Knaresborough.'
